BMC Software, Inc. announced second-generation DB2 Version 7 data management solutions for mainframe and distributed environments. BMC Software is expanding its industry-leading SmartDBA data management portfolio with the introduction of five mainframe DB2 and two distributed systems DB2 universal database (UDB) data management solutions, providing customers with the broadest and most advanced DB2 data management offerings. The new solutions automate database management tasks by providing tighter levels of integration and new built-in intelligence features allowing database administrators (DBAs) to improve application uptime.

This initiative supports Project Golden Gate, BMC's blueprint for bridging the gap between mainframe and distributed environments. With the continued rollout of products for both mainframe and distributed environments, BMC Software is ensuring that all customers, regardless of the platform they operate on, are able to leverage its technology to assure availability of their critical data and applications.

BMC Software is building upon its broad mainframe offerings with the introduction of five new DB2 data management solutions that span the areas of performance, administration, and recovery. System Performance for DB2 v2.0 provides new navigation components that offer a task-oriented approach to system performance. The new reporting function provides system health indicators, accounting and audit data without requiring the use of system management facility (SMF) and its associated overhead. Additionally, new reporting capabilities spot trends or real-time bottlenecks which, if left unchecked, would degrade DB2 subsystem and application performance.

Database Administration for DB2 v1.2 speeds the deployment of ERP and CRM applications by supporting VLDB (very large databases). Additional enhancements to the product include the ability to perform high-speed migrations, enabling DBAs to quickly identify and migrate object changes.
