October 5, 2010 – BMC Software Inc., a business service management software provider, announced Tuesday its intention to buy Neptuny, a provider of capacity management and IT performance optimization software.

The Houston-based BMC stated in a news release that purchasing Neptuny would give it further cloud and virtual leverage, and less dedication toward hardware spending. Neptuny creates platforms that allow customers to align physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure with business needs, and BMC said those capabilities would also enhances offerings to its Business Service Management portfolio.

Neptuny was founded in 2007 and has a professional services group that was not part of the intended acquisition, according to a news release.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
