The global data protection as a service (DPaaS) market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 57% from 2015 to 2019, according to a new report from Technavio.

DPaaS helps reduce the numerous complexities associated with the development and design of mobile and Web applications, and enables developers to avoid server-side programming, complex backend codes, and interfaces and integration templates for the backend, the report says.

Moreover, DPaaS has security implications -- helping companies to enhance network security protecting data in transit as well as data at rest.

To calculate the market size, the report considers revenue generated from offerings such as mobile backend as a service, disaster recovery as a service, software platforms, applications, support and maintenance. Among the key vendors in the market are Amazon Web Services, IBM and HP.

“Data protection as a service provides a ready-to-use backend that saves a large amount of time and effort for developers,” Faisal Ghaus, vice president of Technavio, said in a statement. The report also covers disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS), which provides data storage, data archival and online retrieval features.
