To date, the DAMA International (DAMA-I) Alliance Program has been utilized heavily by its members. This program allows members to receive direct benefits in the form of discounts as well as disciplinary knowledge. The program highlights needs of the data management membership, obtaining alliance relationships with industry product and service entities. We have received much feedback concerning the savings from and participation in our latest program launched last year. The discounts received have saved individual members and their companies hundreds or, in many cases, thousands of dollars. It is refreshing to hear these testimonials as they encourage extension of the program to further benefit the members.

This term, we are extending the alliance strategy to verticals such as data warehousing, application development and data quality through various alliance approaches. This will nicely align with our anticipated special interest groups and professional service groups, as well as with the discipline concentration emphasis the DAMA-I Foundation will build and establish. This will result in even stronger collaboration and continued savings benefit for the members of DAMA-I.

We have initiated and formed alliance relationships within the data warehousing vertical arena with organizations such as TDWI. Many members have taken advantage of the conferences and services the organization has offered and, most importantly, saved their companies thousands of dollars. Within the enterprise suite area, we will again expand to a more detailed focus on application development and data modeling tools as we extend existing relationships with established vendors such as Embarcadero Technologies. Finally, we will be extending more emphasis within the user group community in filling alliance gaps within the application development communities. To date, we have extended relationships with not-for-profit user groups such as the Oracle User Group.

Our speaker alliances continue to develop as well. The speakers list continues to grow and stay current (thanks to the new and improved Web site) for supporting the chapters internationally. The Chapter Speaker List continues to benefit the chapters by giving them additional selections for a more diverse monthly program.

This past DAMA-I Symposium covered solutions and successes. We feel the alliance program continues to aid data management professionals with bottom-line solutions and successes. This program will allow a best benefit collaboration for the data management professional within the industry and DAMA-I member base.

Look for further exciting developments within the alliance program. The program is open to all vendors and services benefiting data management professionals. If you feel that you can benefit the DAMA-I membership base by being an alliance speaker, vendor or service provider, please contact VP Industry Services at for further discussion.
