July 19, 2011 – Just more than a month after it was purchased by Compuware, dynaTrace has rolled out data monitoring and use enhancements to its flagship application performance management platform.

The revamped platform is built on a new generation of its PurePath Technology for application oversight. dynaTrace 4 includes tracking for transactions across the database, enhanced analytics and incident management capabilities, and zero-configuration and auto-discovery at runtime, according to a news release. Those enhancements, aimed at depth and breadth of APM, are meant as a complimentary, integrated platform for Compuware’s traditional infrastructure monitoring offerings, particularly its Gomez platform, says John Van Siclen, president of the new dynaTrace subsidiary and that company’s CEO prior to the acquisition.

Van Siclen says features in the new release are part of an effort by his organization and parent company Compuware to address the increasing sophistication of back- and front-end application use by stakeholders across the enterprise.

“With application performance management, the center is shifting from the data center to a user-centric view,” Van Siclen says.

Jean-Pierre Garbani, Forrester VP and principal analyst on IT infrastructure and operations, says that, while not entirely new, the features updated in the new dynaTrace release bolster the uniqueness of capabilities in Compuware’s popular Gomez platform.

“Gomez is now a power solution that provides unique features … and finally has an up-to-date tracing and Java monitoring solution,” says Garbani, later adding, “I think the big opportunity is against the installed bases of CA, HP and IBM, and potentially Quest Software.”
