Actuate Corporation, a provider of scalable business intelligence applications, announced the Formula One e.Report Engine for WebLogic Workshop, a new product developed by the ReportingEngines division of Actuate Corporation, a provider of embedded reporting solutions for the J2EE platform. The e.Report Engine for WebLogic Workshop offers BEA developers a fully integrated Java reporting toolset that can be used as a part of every project to design, preview, compile and deploy reports for any application without leaving the BEA WebLogic Workshop environment.

"Custom WebLogic Workshop Java controls can allow our partners to create service-oriented components that easily connect to back-end resources and applications," said David Cotter, director, WebLogic developer marketing at BEA. "We see the potential for e.Report Engine for WebLogic Workshop to become a critical component for many BEA developers writing applications that integrate Actuate's Business Intelligence and Embedded Reporting solutions with BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1. The WebLogic Workshop environment is focused on increasing productivity for Java developers of all levels, and having easily integratable reporting components is a key piece in increasing developer productivity."

"The Formula One e.Report Engine for WebLogic Workshop is an essential addition to the toolkit of any BEA developer seeking to add reporting functionality to their applications," said Eric Rogge, vice president and research director – Business Intelligence and Analytics, at Ventana Research. "Because the Formula One e.Report Engine is fully integrated into the Workshop development environment, developers aren't required to learn a completely new environment. Developer productivity is enhanced as Java developers re-use skill sets to more rapidly deploy applications."

An increasing number of consumers, employees, and corporations consume critical data through the BEA WebLogic Platform in the form of statements, sales forecasts, account summaries and executive dashboards. This demand for reporting functionality has increased the desire for developers to use a single set of reporting tools across multiple projects that enable rapid development and deployment of reports in the BEA WebLogic Platform.

The e.Report Engine for WebLogic Workshop reduces the time to develop and deploy reporting functionality in applications deployed on BEA WebLogic Server or BEA WebLogic Portal. Developers utilize a fully integrated WebLogic Workshop Control that enables reports to be built in a wizard-driven, point- and-click manner from JDBC, BEA Liquid Data for WebLogic(TM), XML data streams, and in-memory Java objects.

Completed reports are compiled, embedded in, and deployed with the associated application directly to WebLogic Server or BEA WebLogic Portal without adding an additional server process. Delivered as a core functionality of the application, the reports are able to completely inherit the functionality of the existing BEA WebLogic Server. In the end, reports are delivered with less complexity because developers are able to use an integrated toolset that leverages their core development platform without a separate server setup or ongoing administration.
