"Many of our customers and brokers want to receive information from us in the form of spreadsheets," said Mike Hader, director of IT at Odom's Tennessee Pride. "This is their preferred format for performing in-depth analysis. We have to be able to implement spreadsheets outside the firewall and still ensure that the data is secure. Deploying Actuate e.Spreadsheets give us this capability. End-users, both internal and external, have told us how much faster they are able to do their jobs because they don't have to spend time cutting and pasting information into spreadsheets or creating formulas to perform their analysis."
Building on the company's years of experience providing innovative reporting tools, as well as expertise in creating server-based spreadsheets, Actuate e.Spreadsheet addresses the information quality, information consistency and scalability issues associated with the manual generation of spreadsheets and spreadsheet plug-in solutions. Actuate 9 e.Spreadsheet combines the power of an enterprise report writer with the strong foundation of a repeatable blueprint to expand the audience served by analysis-ready spreadsheets.
"Corporations today need data governance whether government regulations require compliance or not," said Dan Everett, research director, business intelligence at Ventana Research. "Although spreadsheets are an essential business tool, their uncontrolled exponential growth makes it difficult for organizations to guarantee the lineage, integrity, and security of data. Actuate e.Spreadsheet enables organizations to centrally manage the data in spreadsheets, which helps companies reduce risks, increase consistency and enforce control policies."
Actuate 9 e.Spreadsheet introduces the SmartSheet Security Option, a breakthrough scaleable architecture to produce data-driven workbooks. The SmartSheet Security Option executes one query set against enterprise data sources and then manufactures one master catalogue that custom-generates spreadsheets upon request, to support millions of users.
The Actuate 9 e.Spreadsheet Designer provides ease-of-use and powerful functionality for Excel power users tasked with supplying spreadsheets to large numbers of users. New features include the Data Range Editor to define dynamic workbook design blueprints and the Data Explorer to simplify data access. The Data Range Editor enables proper expansion, replication and reproduction of formulas and references in each spreadsheet as data expands and contracts. It automates the use of e.Spreadsheet's report functions and creates security locks against groups, ranges and worksheets to establish the permissions for each recipient. The Data Explorer simplifies the definition of queries with runtime and view-time parameters that shape the spreadsheet data.
