While I would love to disclose the DAMA 2002 Achievement Award Winners, I am sworn to secrecy until after the presentation of awards on Wednesday, May 1, at the DAMA International Conference. Unfortunatley, this issue of DM Review will be published prior to the conference announcement.

Did I say winners? Yes, we have two winners again this year.

The winners last year were Dr. E. F. Codd and Dr. Peter Aiken. Although both in the field of information resource management, their subjects are in divergent domains. Briefly, Dr. E.F. Codd is known for his work in relational database management and online analytical processing (OLAP); whereas, Dr. Peter Aiken's works vary from reverse engineering to assisting organizations with their data management strategies and systems initiatives.

Our 2002 winners are similar. Their works are in different fields of the data/information resource management world, yet both contribute greatly to the growth and education of our professional industry.

With dual winners over the past two years, we are thinking we may wish to enhance the Individual Achievement Award. We may replace the Individual Achievement Award(s) with Recognition Awards in categories such as lifetime award, academic award, professional award, alumni award and perhaps even government award. This would allow DAMA as a whole to recognize the contributions of many outstanding individuals in the field of information resource management.

The final selection of categories and the qualifying criteria for each award are currently being reviewed. If you have any ideas or would like to comment about the recognition awards, please e- mail me at vp_communications@dama.org. Your input would be a considerable help and greatly appreciated.

If you receive your copy of DM Review, read this article before the DAMA International Conference (April 28 - May 2) and would like to know the winners as well as attend an internationally renowned conference, there may still be time to register. Log on to www.dama.org.
