Anyone who is a homeowner has probably seen the syndicated television show This Old House with Bob Villa. For years, Bob has taken his viewers through the rigors of home construction projects. One of the more interesting deviations he undertakes is when he tours the companies who contribute time, material or labor to the renovation project. For example, during a program that featured a crew installing replacement windows, Bob did a sidebar by taking the audience on a tour through the manufacturing plant of Anderson Windows. During the segment, Anderson officials revealed the secrets of fabricating a window.

They showed how wood was cut and shaped into a window frame, how sheets of aluminum were cut and shaped around the wood and finally how weather-proof glass was inserted into the structure to form a state-of-the-art aluminum window. This month’s column is borrowing Bob Villa’s format as I share a behind-the-scenes tour of one of the market’s premier data quality tools, Firstlogic.
