January 10, 2011 - The National Quality Forum has published two free reports to assist in optimizing use of electronic health records and clinical decision support systems.
Both reports are based on the work of expert panels the Washington-based forum put together. The EHR report is "Driving Quality: A Health IT Assessment Framework for Measurement." It's designed to aid understanding of an EHR's features and functions, when and how they are used, and the development of IT use measures to understand how usage can improve care processes, quality and safety. The report is available here.
The second report, designed for IT developers, system implementers and quality improvement professionals, is "Driving Quality and Performance Measurement: A Foundation for Clinical Decision Support." The report provides a common categorization, or taxonomy, for developing tools, content and policies compatible with decision support features and functions. It is available here.
