The results of the study reveal what data center managers are planning for the next 12 months.
Data center consolidation was the primary concern for 41.5 percent of administrators surveyed. More than a third (34.5 percent) intend to migrate to a public or private cloud this year.
When asked about the most difficult issues they expect to deal with, 39 percent responded that multidepartmental coordination was a top concern.
“Large enterprises have ongoing tech refreshes throughout the year,” says Joy Burd, vice president of marketing communication for SANpulse Technologies Inc. “Tech refreshes enable the move to the cloud. Cloud migration requires coordination between business units.”
“Preparing your migration project properly requires coordination, but you will have less down time,” says Burd. “If you have your ducks in a row, it’s going to happen correctly.”
The 2011 Enterprise Data Center Survey was conducted in December 2010 and included more than 100 large enterprises (those with more than 10,000 employees) across a range of industries.
