October 30, 2009 – Open Text Corporation released its 2010 product roadmap for Web content management, digital asset management and social media solutions.

The enterprise content management provider is emphasizing the role of a successful enterprise 2.0 strategy as business expectations for the Web increase.

Scott Bowen, Senior Vice President at Open Text was said in a release that successful Enterprise 2.0 strategies need to consider social media, mobile devices and brand consistency, while managing the large amounts of associated content. “Medium and large enterprises must learn to do this effectively and securely, while meeting compliance and privacy requirements,” he said.

Within the WCM system Open Text is releasing an application to leverage Web compliance specifically, according to Marci Maddox, product marketing manager for Web Solutions at Open Text. Set to come out in the second half next year, it will extend organization’s abilities to control their brand at a blog or wiki level by connecting them to Open Text’s Web compliance manager.

“When you think of security and compliance as it relates to Web and social media, you are determining a policy for how you interact with that content,” said Maddox. “It’s time to consider how social media and Web content management is all being brought together.”

Open Text’s new product plans include enhanced integration with the Open Text ECM Suite. New releases will allow rich media captured via the Web to be managed centrally and in ways that are efficient, secure and compliant; improve organizations’ efficiency through consolidated and localized multisite global Web solutions; and drive conversations and advocacy through more social, personal and engaging Web channels according to the release.

Open Text will release Open Text Social Media 1.1 in 2010, which includes a wiki editor and a quick messaging feature that combines instant messaging with microblogging. Additional releases include enhanced Vignette applications, such as Vignette Community Applications 8.0 and Vignette Content Management 8.0.

Open Text Web Solutions 10.1, planned for the first half of 2010, will deliver social media offerings that utilize Vignette Community Applications and Services to take advantage of shared services in the Web Solutions portfolio, such as search, video delivery, social media, asset and document management integrations, the release said.

So much enterprise content resides on the Web now that it has its own disciplines and challenges that are similar to, but not the same thing as, enterprise content management. To hear more about Web content management listen to this episode of DM Radio.
