Two-thirds consider their MDM and DW implementations to be at least moderately successful. Almost half (46 percent) of organizations surveyed have one or more DW and MDM implementation. Relatively few (7 percent) had only MDM. Also, 57 percent of MDM implementations are enterprise wide; for DW’s this number is 75 percent. Two-thirds of organizations have data governance in place, showing an improvement over earlier studies.
“This survey substantiates the symbiosis between data warehousing and MDM,” said Jill Dyché, partner and co-founder of Baseline Consulting, in the release. “It’s not surprising that companies with mature data warehouses are turning their heads to MDM to address data quality and reconciliation issues in a more sustainable way. What is surprising is that MDM is often adopted by data warehousing teams in advance operational applications. This reconfirms that MDM and data governance are being deployed incrementally by the early adopters.”
