October 14, 2009 – DataCore Software is targeting small and midsized businesses with its latest enhancements to SANmelody, released today.
SANmelody 3.0 is an upgrade to earlier releases of DataCore’s virtual storage solution. It is designed to assist SMBs interested in upgrading their disk subsystems and storage network infrastructure, according to the DataCore release.
SANmelody manages and protects data storage and disk space by converting Intel/AMD servers, blades or virtual machines into storage servers, according to DataCore. The servers virtualize disks and deliver them over existing networks to application servers.
There are a number of new features included in the latest version. SANmelody 3.0 includes the ability to replace storage arrays in the background by copying the contents of an individual drive to the unit as it transparently takes over once the contents match that of the original drive. It also includes group snapshot and clone command, which coordinates multiple snapshots of related data volumes to ensure point-time synchronization, the company release said.
Other enhancements include redundant pathing, prioritized recovery, content migration and access to the fibre channel storage pool through LAN switching, according to DataCore.
