August 21, 2009 – MicroStrategy added new product capabilities for software as a service companies to its original equipment manufacturer program, MicroStrategy 9, appealing to a growing market.

The SaaS market is forecast to reach $8 billion in 2009 and continue growth through 2013 on a global scale, according to a Gartner study. The market is expected to grow to $16 billion for the enterprise application markets.

MicroStrategy 9 is a business intelligence solution that provides integrated reporting and analytics on an open platform. The latest release’s enhanced SaaS features include end-user design features, in-memory BI, improved security integration with third-party tools, a plug-in architecture and the ability for companies to use their own reporting terminology across multiple languages, according to the MicroStrategy announcement.

Sanju Bansal, MicroStrategy COO was quoted in the company release to say that the appeal of SaaS BI solutions is that they provide an alternative for organizations looking to share BI data across the organization, but that need to manage it externally.
