A gang of hackers in Russia has amassed 1.2 billion sets of looted user names and passwords, according to a U.S. security company that said it's the largest known cache of stolen personal information.

While I absolutely agree that syndicates in Eastern Europe and China are hurting economies of the west by stockpiling lot of sensitive data - honestly, if the enterprise security policies are underwhelming, there's not enough eyes/ budget and personnel dedicated to it - there's no other result heading your way. There are plenty of reports with data backup which outlines the internet security threats http://goo.gl/ew2TsV. It is upto data managers, cloud computing leads and legal departments to step up. At the end of the day, it's YOUR data and nobody is going to safeguard it better than you, not even the vendor who promises you the world.
