ADP Jumps into Health IT

March 3, 2011 – Automatic Data Processing Inc., a $9 billion, multi-national business process outsourcing and software company with 550,000 clients, has acquired physician software vendor AdvancedMD Software Inc. for an undisclosed price.

ADP's small business services division provides human resources, payroll and benefits outsourcing services to more than 45,000 physicians in 13,500 small-to mid-sized practices.

The company will market the services to current and prospective practice management/electronic health records software clients of Salt Lake City-based AdvancedMD, which serves about 10,000 physicians in 4,100 practices, along with 300 billing firms.

Roseland, N.J.-based ADP is well known for its payroll processing and administrative services. The company also offers human resources, tax management and a range of other outsourcing functions. It also sells software, such as applications to calculate sales and use taxes, populate tax forms and transfer money, and sells property and casualty and health insurance.
