Retailers require analytical tools to capture and evaluate data so that insights can be leveraged to solve business problems. OfficeMax was seeking to improve its merchandizing capabilities and optimize promotions, shelf space and product placement for promotional selling seasons and everyday offerings. With ParAccel, OfficeMax is planning to perform comprehensive market basket analysis (complex analytic queries that require sophisticated joining on detailed sales history). This information will help improve retail performance.
OfficeMaxs high-volume data processing workload required extensive and frequent tuning, and specific complex queries often took over six hours to complete. In the on-site trial, the ParAccel Analytic Database ran these complex queries in less than 20 minutes. ParAccel will augment OfficeMaxs current environment with ad hoc capabilities.
According to Charlie Baugh, senior vice president of Information Technology for OfficeMax, This partnership will provide our business the query performance we require in a scalable, cost-effective solution.
The news follows the recent release of ParAccel Analytic Database 2.0.
