November 3, 2009 - Birst today announced Birst 4, a SaaS business intelligence solution with ETL services, data warehouses on the fly, and integrated reporting services, such as dashboards and alerts.

Like Brad Peters said in a recent article, in recent years, the barriers preventing the spread of BI outside of the executive suite are breaking. Recently developed software as a service BI solutions are lower cost, faster to deploy and require fewer resources. Because they can be deployed quickly and with limited resources, SaaS solutions are more flexible than traditional solutions, adapting readily to changing business needs.

According to the announcement, Birst 4 proposes to meet the needs of most BI environments by expanding upon automated, integrated BI that can help companies gain greater control and capability for business users.

Newly improved features include live access, advanced ETL services, reporting services, smart dashboards advanced filtering, drill-down capability and drag-and-drop controls.

Existing Birst customer Dan Lawler, CFO of Children’s Choice, a provider of early care and education programs to children and families said, “After getting a sneak preview of Birst 4, we’re excited about the advanced functionality and improvements for business user self-service reporting. We’re looking forward to deploying it broadly throughout our organization.”

Birst 4 will be available in mid-November. Existing Birst customers will be upgraded automatically.
