Along with reaching users across the company, version 10.0 of SAP BusinessObjects EPM can use SAP In-Memory Computing for more agile planning scenarios. Key features include workspaces with embedded EPM to track key performance indicators, mobile delivery, new bill of materials costing to link EPM to the production level, extended capabilities for financial consolidation and deeper integration with the SAP NetWeaver technology platform, the SAP ERP application and SAP BusinessObjects solutions.
The 10.0 release is part of SAP’s long-term vision to ensure all decision-makers are guided by the same strategy, according to Bryan Katis, vice president of Enterprise Performance Management Solutions at SAP, as stated in the product announcement. “This is the latest example of how we are working to deliver solutions that help individuals, teams and entire business networks unlock valuable knowledge to uncover new opportunities, anticipate change and make better decisions as a whole to achieve remarkable results,” Katis was quoted to say.
William Jan, senior analyst at Aberdeen, sees a few key advantages in the new version. “The inclusion of risk-adjusted planning, along with a ‘friendlier’ UI that facilitates adoption, will enable both Microsoft and NetWeaver users to enhance their performance management capabilities without much re-learning.”
“There is now a central launch point for all BPC [business planning and consolidation] activities to further reduce the learning curve,” says Jan.
This is the third major product announcement from the company in recent months. In February, SAP launched the culmination of three years’ development in business intelligence and enterprise information management software. In March, SAP launched a retooled update of its governance, risk and compliance suite.
