March 4, 2011 – Data management solutions provider DataFlux has announced the acquisition of data quality and business intelligence analysts Baseline Consulting.

Baseline founders Jill Dyché and Evan Levy will join the executive team at DataFlux, which is a subsidiary of SAS.

DataFlux CEO Tony Fisher says the consultancy will provide process and policy management services that were largely not performed in-house, and oftentimes farmed out to Baseline partners or other third parties. Fisher says bringing on Baseline enables his company to follow projects past software or technology implementation into the data services realm where “we really did not have a lot of activity.”

“One of the things that is happening in a lot of organizations today is that there really is an expectation [from customers] of more than just, ‘Sell me some technology and I’ll figure how to put this stuff together,’” Fisher says.

Baseline Consulting has a 20 year track record of work to provide enterprise data planning in projects across financial services, retail, health care and communications. In a call with Fischer, Dyché said the focus with one vendor gives her and her analysts the opportunity to see projects beyond the decision stage.

“We’re called in by a client to plan and roadmap, and at some point, we recommend a vendor and walk away. What this will let us do is stay for the whole deal,” Dyché says.

In their role as independent consultants, Dyché and Levy have regularly contributed blogs, feature articles and analysis to Information Management.

The deal is final, though terms of the purchase were not disclosed. DataFlux will retain Baseline’s analysts as well as its IT and packaged services for areas such as master data management and data governance.
