TIBCO Software Acquires Netrics

March 26, 2010 – Integration infrastructure provider TIBCO Software Inc. announced this week announced that it has acquired Netrics, a privately-held provider of enterprise data matching software products.

Netrics' data matching engine is meant to ease the handling of duplicate, inaccurate or incomplete data records with algorithmic learning technology that improves data quality over time. The product can be embedded in existing software applications and business processes, and Netrics touts ease of use for anyone working with enterprise information.

“Netrics differentiates its advanced matching engine by describing how it ‘Matches data based on a mathematical model that mimics human perception of similarity, identifying hidden relationships in the data.” stated Forrester analyst Rob Karel in a blog post referring to the acquisition.  “The Netrics matching engine includes a self-learning capability that improves the confidence in its matches over time by also evaluating manual matches made by business users.”

Karel noted that Netrics’ business and technology approach made it a ripe (and obvious) candidate for acquisition because the match engine is developed to be embeddable in existing applications with the majority of the company’s revenue coming from OEM and SI channels.

Gartner Research VP Andrew White highlighted the continued frenzy of acquisitions in the master data management space in a blog on the latest acquisition. “… this new acquisition highlights the dwindling set of data quality tools for master data management (and other interested) vendors to partner with, and/or acquire,” White wrote. “The acquisition seems logical, and good, for packaged MDM (TIBCO offers one) though; but as the music dies down, who will be left standing without a partner…”

Netrics' president and CEO, Stefanos Damianakis, has joined TIBCO to lead the development of this business. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
