The Department of Veterans Affairs has announced it is temporarily halt ing 45 information technology projects that are either behind schedule or over budget. During the suspension, officials will determine whether each project should resume, the VA says.

Before any project can continue, the VA must create a new  project plan that meets the requirements of the government’s Program Management Accountability System and is approved by the VA’s assistant secretary for information and technology, says Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki.

“VA has a responsibility to the American people, who are investing millions of dollars in technology projects, to deliver quality results that adhere to a budget and are delivered on time,” Shinseki said. “They need to have confidence that the dollars they are spending are being effectively used to improve the lives of our veterans.”

The 45 delayed projects include a wide range of technologies, from health data repositories to bar coding. More information is available at va.gov.
