June 18, 2009 – 1010data has released version 5 of it hosted analytics and reporting platform, 1010data.

1010data’s release comes on the heels of reports from Gartner, Inc. and Forrester Research predicting substantial increases in hosted analytics use. The U.S. Web analytics market alone is expected grow by 17 percent to $953 million by 2014, according to a May report by Forrester Research, Inc.

SAS announced plans in March to build 38,000-square-foot cloud computing facility to help the company offer hosted analytics solutions and includes two “massive” server farms.

1010data uses a back-end database and a front-end tool to deploy a business intelligence and data warehousing solution meant to perform deep analysis to extract insight from raw data, according to a 1010data statement.

Version 5 offers enhanced power and flexibility to the user, according to 1010data, including: As-Of Linking, connecting data in one table or database with another; row expansion, the ability to add rows to a table by replicating existing rows; the ODBC driver now transfers data up to 10 to 15 times faster; and the addition of native interfaces to the software development kit for Java, .NET, Perl and Mathematica.

David M. Raab, Principal at Raab Associates Inc., addressed concerns about on-demand BI in Information Management’s February issue. “As with any technology, on-demand BI will be limited at first. For now, it's worth testing the automated systems to understand what they really can do. Even if the current reality doesn't quite live up to the promises, bear in mind that the systems will grow over time,” he wrote.
