On the heels of four 2009 acquisitions, the information infrastructure and consulting provider hopes to see Archer bridge the gap between the technology and security levels in the business, according the Paul Stamp, senior product marketing manager for EMC.
Archer’s out-of-the-box solutions, including policy, risk, compliance, enterprise, incident, vendor, threat, business continuity and audit management, are built on a framework that allows users to tailor solutions to their requirements, according to EMC’s statement.
EMC’s RSA Security Division will be able to significantly extend its solutions portfolio with Archer, enabling users to automate GRC visibility and policy enforcement across both physical and virtualized IT environments.
The incorporation of Archer in to the RSA division raises a question for Chris McClean, industry analyst for market research firm Forrester Research, Inc. “Archer was starting to move outside the risk and compliance space, branching out into business continuity and vendor relationship management,” said McClean. “It will be interesting to see what happens there.”
Wherever Archer fits in the EMC structure, McClean says the EMC’s move in to GRC makes a lot of sense. “Archer really gives them their first central platform to pull all of those capabilities together.”
“Archer will cut down the weeds in the data that EMC collects, turning that into more business relevant data and enhancing all of the work flow around security management processes,” said Stamp.
Archer’s growth and this acquisition are likely to put some added weight on GRC vendors in the space, emphasized McClean. “They’ve had a lot of success and now there are more resources to pull from,” he said. “It’s not a large space but this is going to put more pressure on competitors to solidify partnerships or secure acquisitions.”
