As governance, information security and business resilience become increasingly important to organizations, the launch of the International Board for IT Governance Qualifications aims to help improve and standardize the quality of training.
“Continuing professional development is critical for IT governance, information security and business resilience professionals today… The new IBITGQ framework will define structured learning paths from foundation courses through to advanced and expert-level qualifications,” stated Werner Henschelchen, General Manager of gasq in a news release.
Alan Calder, chief executive of IT Governance, believes it is difficult to assess the quality and value of training courses without standardized testing and external accreditation. “We believe that a formal qualification scheme will provide a framework for professionals within the industry to develop the range of interconnected skills that employers will need in the years ahead,” said Calder in the announcement.
Qualifications will initially be built around skills required for best-practice management standards, such as ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27005, BS25999 and ISO/IEC 38500.
IBITGQ is actively recruiting additional board members from the industry and will be developing relationships with relevant industry bodies in the U.K, across Europe and in North America.
The group aims to ensure that employers value the IBITGQ range of certifications, according to the announcement. Members of the IT governance industry invited join IBITGQ, for a small annual fee by going to the association’s website when it is launched.
The site plans to launch in the next two weeks, with syllabi to be posted and courses to start in May.
