Frost & Sullivan Looks at Enterprise Social Media Potential

The number of full-suite enterprise social media platform subscribers is expected to rise from 208 million in 2013 to 535 million in 2018, according to new research from Frost & Sullivan. Currently, there are about 2 billion workers worldwide who could benefit from enterprise social technologies across numerous industries, organizations, locations and job roles, the firm says.

These numbers seem realistic based on what we are seeing with our clients. I think there are two primary reasons for the increase (outside of the inherent benefits of Enterprise Social Networks). The first is a renewed interest in business process and a focus on defining ESN business-driven use cases upfront -- and using them to drive adoption. Second, Enterprise application software vendors are integrating ESNs into core business applications (instead of positioning them as standalone applications).
