CA’s information governance group will bring significant expertise to Autonomy, says Brian Hill, senior analyst for Forrester Research. “The additional staff can speak both to IT and legal needs, addressing e-discovery and making sure their products and messaging align. CA’s team has the ability to bridge that gap.”
Autonomy’s platform for e-discovery, archiving, supervisions and records management will now be accompanied by CA Records Manager, a federated and physical records management system, and CA Message Manager, a platform for capturing and managing messages based on corporate and regulatory requirements, according to the company release.
The acquisition is similar to Autonomy’s purchase of Interwoven last year, where the company also picked up a solid pool of legal experts, says Hill. Interwoven brought a wealth of human capital with experience at the intersection of legal and IT, expected to accelerate sales in the e-discovery market as well.
“There has been quite a bit of consolidation in this industry, but a lot of the acquisitions have been designed to fill specific gaps in organizational portfolios. That’s not necessarily the case here. There is some significant overlap in capability between Autonomy and CA,” says Hill. “This acquisition is focusing on expertise and picking up some of the additional customer base.”
Autonomy’s CEO of Autonomy iManage, Neil Araujo, expects the merger and additional assets to meet a pressing need. “With the importance of transparency, regulatory oversight and consumer advocacy at an all-time high, the need for an end-to-end solution for Information Governance has never been stronger.”
CA Technologies Information Governance employees will join Autonomy – approximately 100 in all, says Hill.
