A new vendor alliance is aimed at enabling physicians to scan documents, automatically formatted into applicable standards, and place them in a data vault for retrieval as necessary.

The partnership includes the scanning and data capturing software from Rochester, N.Y.-based Eastman Kodak Co., and the data vault application of MedCo Data LLC, Tampa, Fla. The documents can support standards from Health Level Seven and the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs, as well as the Continuity of Care Document.

The standards-based files eases export from the data vault into an organizations existing or future electronic health records systems, according to the vendors. Charts also can be canned into an EHR during implementation to ease provider adoption.
