Credent solutions encrypt and guard user and corporate data as it travels between PCs, laptops and mobile devices to enterprise storage and systems. The vendor’s solutions also enable PC lifecycle maintenance for encrypted machines, and cover multiple mobile OS and connections to enterprise cloud data.
Jeff Clarke, president of Dell’s End User Computing Solutions, said in a statement on the proposed deal that Credant’s “assets” will beef up and complement Dell’s device security features on its Latitude, OptiPlex and Precision computers.
“When combined with the change in compute behaviors and data in-flight, Dell can now offer a differentiated security proposition based on its own intellectual property,” Clarke said.
Credant was founded in 2001 and is based in Addison, Texas. It counts 1,000 customers, including construction machinery seller Caterpillar and Virginia Commonwealth University, and has long-standing OEM partnerships with Dell as well as Microsoft, Cisco and RSA.
Financial details of the proposed deal were not disclosed.
Dell has made few moves since pitching $2.4 billion for software vendor Quest in July. Last month, Dell announced a deal to acquire infrastructure automation vendor Gale Technologies.
