Datawatch Dashboard Solution for Power Users

September 23, 2009 – Datawatch Corporation has announced the availability of Datawatch Dashboards, a business intelligence tool that allows users to graphically monitor operational performance, business processes and events.
Datawatch Dashboards allows users to view data from multiple sources at once with a single screen that consolidates and arranges it. One-click drill-down capability interprets large amounts of data through at-a-glance indicators, and users can customize information, format and security level as desired, according to the company’s release.
Wayne Eckerson, director of TDWI Research at The Data Warehousing Institute.
Agrees that Datawatch Dashboards makes it easy to access, display and analyze information from data that’s difficult to access, including semi-structured data, such as log files, PDF documents, print files and HTML catalog pages.
“The product is and interesting backdoor for a lot of users,” Eckerson said, explaining that it’s a core report mining product that makes it easier for users to see what they have extracted.
When combined with Datawatch’s Monarch technology the product goes beyond data visualization to address the concern of how information gets to the dashboard itself, according to John Kitchen, CMO and senior vice president for Datawatch.
“We have the dashboard product, which can standalone,” Kitchen said. “But, what really takes it to then next level is when you combine it with our monarch technology. Suddenly [it] becomes very easy to setup the dashboard [and] access the data and aggregate it in a fashion that everyone can do.”
The new product is a convenient tool for power users to have in their tool boxes, said Eckerson. “This is a good tool for a power user who typically need to access data from a variety of sources. It’s a good tool to go after some of that data that’s really hard to get. Its not a screen scraping tool, but it’s pretty close.”
