Microsoft Corp. will acquire Sentillion Inc., an Andover, Mass.-based vendor of context management and single-sign-on software, for an undisclosed sum.

The vendors already are partners. Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft in mid-2009 signed a license to use Sentillion's software as a module with the Amalga Unified Intelligence System. Amalga is advanced data integration and aggregation software. Sentillion's applications enable users to access and simultaneously view patient data from multiple information systems during a single session.

Sentillion will continue to sell and support its products while Microsoft invests in the long-term evolution of the combined product suite, according to the companies. Sentillion will continue to operate out of its Andover headquarters. The companies expect the acquisition to close in early 2010.

More than 115 hospitals use Amalga and 1,000 use Sentillion's applications, according to the vendors. More information is available at sentillion.com and microsoft.com/amalga/default.mspx.
