May 9, 2011 – The speed of transactions will now get tracked through the cloud.

Ixia, a supplier of performance test systems and service verification platforms, is introducing a series of products that validate speeds of time-sensitive applications in cloud networks at the Interop trade show. The show begins Sunday in Las Vegas.

The company's Xcellon-Flex and ImpairNet modules will a single integrated chassis to achieve realistic, timely, and cost-effective data center cloud simulation. Ixia's RFC-based test suites and benchmark performance metrics make it easy to evaluate and compare different network switches.

Data center operators will be able to upgrade their infrastructure, based on the testing, to deliver high-speed, high-volume traffic in clouds, Ixia said.

Also rolling out is a related product, the Force10 S-Series S4810 switch, built especially for use in high-performance data center and computing applications. The switch uses a non-blocking, cut-through switching architecture,

A recent network performance and power test by the Lippis Report indicated the S4810 demonstrated as much as 5 percent to 70 percent lower latency than comparable switches in a 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) network.

Force10 is a separate company that automates Ethernet networks.

The combination of products is intended "to completely characterize the latency performance of data center clouds" for time-sensitive applications such as financial transactions, where, the companies said, "even milliseconds of delay can results in a loss of thousands of dollars.”
