August 30, 2010 – CA Technologies announced this morning a definitive agreement to purchase Arcot, an authentication and fraud prevention software firm, for $200 million.

CA Technologies, an IT management software company based in Islandia, N.Y., made the buy to bolster growing concerns related to enterprise security, according to a news release from the company. The acquisition of Arcot aims to compliment CA’s identity and access management portfolio with accelerated delivery from cloud sources and expanded  business-to-business ventures.

Dave Hansen, general manager for the Security business at CA Technologies and its former CIO, said the acquisition gives his company a “proven, robust” future in cloud security.
“In a larger enterprise in the cloud, we were waiting and watching, but we wanted something to build on with existing infrastructures,” Hansen said in a phone interview Monday.
He added: “It clearly compliments what we’re doing.”

Arcot has existing verifications for 120 million identities.
