August 30, 2010 – Citrix Systems has reached a definitive agreement to buy California software virtualization company VMLogix and added to its own cloud computing infrastructure platform, according to announcements Monday.

As part of the acceleration of Citrix’s OpenCloud software, the San Francisco business announced an agreement to buy VMLogix with the intent of making it easy for public and private cloud providers to offer infrastructure services that extend from pre-production and quality assurance, to staging, deployment and business continuity.

New to the OpenCloud platform are open virtual lifecycle automation, cloud interoperabiltity and networking, according to a news release on the acquisition and additions.

Features of the new OpenCloud and VMLogix buy will be displayed this week at VMWorld Conference

In a statement on the moves, Klaus Oestermann, group vice president and general manager of networking and the cloud product group at Citrix, said: “This isn’t about giving customers the ability to buy the same offering from multiple sources – it’s about providing them the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of cloud services designed around an open framework that encourages both innovation and interoperability while optimizing cost.”

Neither company responded to requests for financial information on the deal. The acquisition of VMLogix is expected to close in the third quarter of 2010 and is subject to the satisfaction of closing conditions.

VMLogix was founded in 2004 and is headquartered in Palo Alto, Calif.
