April 21, 2010 – Salesforce.com announced that it will acquire crowd-sourced data services provider Jigsaw today for $142 million.

The acquisition will combine salesforce.com’s cloud platform and customer relationship management applications with Jigsaw’s cloud-based automated data cleansing.

Jigsaw will be integrated into Salesforce’s products, and the anticipated release of Salesforce Chatter will include real-time feeds to alert users when data changes or requires cleansing, according to a company statement.

Jigsaw will remain open to all customer relationship management systems.

“Salesforce.com is excited to bring the data services industry into the era of Cloud 2,” Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO of salesforce.com was quoted to say. “With Jigsaw, we’ll make it as easy as Wikipedia to source data, as easy as iTunes to buy data and as easy as Facebook to stay updated as the data changes.”
