February 14, 2011 – A new study shows that mobile enterprise applications are now an integral part of everyday IT operations. This move is altering the way business is done, and it’s changed business operations forever, according to Strategy Analytics research.

Devices with 4G, secure mobile enterprise applications and seamless fixed mobile virtual private networks and wireless mobility are changing the structure of business network operations. According to the report, 2011 will see a major growth in managing fixed and mobile together, from devices through to applications, all underpinned by security.

Strategy Analytics expects enterprises will experience “seismic” changes in 2011. Traditional IT is changing dramatically, the report states, pointing to rapid uptake in virtualization and growth in cloud computing. Enterprises are becoming more application-focused in terms of up-time needs, security, reliability and ubiquitous computing. Strategy Analytics sees this as driven in part by the rapid consumerization of IT, and thus, mobility will be seen as increasingly a core part of IT strategy in 2011 and beyond.

Andrew Brown, director, wireless enterprise strategies, Strategy Analytics, explained in an announcement that smartphones and tablets in the workplace are turning from an “experiment to an enterprise norm,” he said, which is “driving the need for secure converged fixed mobile access and integrated IT management.”

New tools allow mobile devices to come under full IT control. Sue Rudd, director, broadband bundle profitability at Strategy Analytics, commented in the release: "Wireless enterprise is expected to lead the way in cloud computing as it actually increases the IT manager's secure control of mobile solutions and devices.”

The report, "New Frontiers: 10 Trends that will shape the Wireless Enterprise in 2011” is available from Strategy Analytics.
