StreamStep was founded in 2008 and is based in Austin, Texas. Its process management capabilities will integrate into BMC's Application Release Automation solution. According to a news release about the acquisition, the aim is to improve and speed up application management from development to production as well as increase business agility and reduce outages, development time and support costs.
"Without a shift to an automated release process, the result is costly bottlenecks in deploying new and updated applications while also increasing the frequency of unexpected outages," Scott Fulton, vice president and general manager of Cloud and Service Operations for BMC, was quoted in the announcement.
The new BMC Release Process Management solution based on StreamStep's technology directly addresses DevOps requirements and will streamline and automate release activities, enabling capture, modeling and management of current application release processes.
“This is a positive thing – it’s a good company and not one that will take long for BMC to integrate, as StreamStep was an existing partner,” says Ronni Colville, VP, distinguished analyst, Gartner. “It’s a gap-filler, filling in gaps around release process strategy.”
A lot of what BMC brings is operational, where they have a strong presence. Colville point to StreamStep’s established partnership with Rally, an Application Lifecycle Management platform, which gives them a strong push.
The acquisition is final and financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. This is the fourth acquisition for Houston-based BMC this year, following the purchases of Coradiant, NEON and Aeroprise.
