Verisk Health Inc., a data analytics firm, has acquired Chanhassen, Minn.-based TierMed Systems LLC, which sells software to automate and manage the reporting of HEDIS quality data. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

HEDIS is the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set of the National Committee for Quality Assurance in Washington. Health insurers submit HEDIS reports to NCQA, which uses the data to measure payer performance.

Waltham, Mass.-based Verisk Health's suite of analytics software estimates illness burdens and interventions that could yield better health outcomes; measures clinical resource management, risk assessment, predictive modeling and auditing; tracks patterns of fraud and abuse; and provides a secure Web-based analysis and reporting platform.
