September 2, 2010 - Content and analytics vendor Thomson Reuters has acquired Healthcare Data Management Inc., a vendor of data analytics software for the health payer market.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

King of Prussia, Pa.-based Healthcare Data Management targets self-insured health plans that are managed by plan administrators and pharmacy benefit management firms. Its core products, based on analysis of 100 percent of a plan's claims, are designed to help self-insured plans monitor the managers.

The BenefitsWatch product provides quarterly reports to enable an organization to monitor administrator and PBM contractual compliance. BenefitsAudit gives a retrospective audit of health plan expenses.

Both applications will be maintained as standalone products, according to the company.

The acquisition will enhance Thomson Reuters' audit and payment integrity services for employer and government markets, according to the Ann Arbor, Mich.-based vendor.

Joseph Goedert is news editor at Health Data Management.
