Revenue cycle management vendor athenahealth Inc. will acquire Anodyne Health Partners Inc., which sells Web-based data analytics software to large medical group practices.

Anodyne also has a business process outsourcing unit that is not part of the acquisition and will be spun off into a separate company prior to closing. Watertown, Mass.-based athenahealth will pay $22.3 million, and up to $7.7 million more for meeting certain business and financial milestones. The companies expect the acquisition to close during October. Athenahealth is a vendor of outsourced billing/collections/revenue cycle services bundled with Web-hosted practice management and electronic health records software.

Alpharetta, Ga.-based Anodyne's software enables the extraction and analysis of operational and business data from various information systems. The company has more than 14,000 medical providers under contract. Anodyne will operate as a separate unit of athenahealth with its own brand identity and will continue to market its software on a standalone basis across all practice management systems.

Athenahealth will integrate the data analytics service into its own services. More information is available at athenahealth.com and anodynehealth.com.
