ParAccel Upgrades Analytic Database

June 30, 2009 – ParAccel, Inc. has introduced version 2.0 of the ParAccel Analytic Database (PADB), the latest iteration of the company’s high-speed, massively parallel (MPP) columnar database management system (DBMS) for data warehousing and analytics.

PADB 2.0 leverages patent-pending innovations in query optimization and SAN integration among a variety of new features, including PADB’s new Omne query optimizer. Omne’s patent-pending capability to join unlimited number of tables enables performance in addressing heavy analytic workloads.

The performance of PADB 2.0 was demonstrated in a record-breaking 30TB TPC-H benchmark where it was 7 times faster and delivered 16 times better price performance than the prior leader, and it loaded data at a rate of nearly 9 terabytes per hour.

Quoted in the company release, IDC analyst Dan Vesset  observes that business analytic appliances like ParAccel have matured to become contenders for the most complex user environments. “Given the affordable price points of many analytic appliances, the technical evolution of these offerings is expected to garner continued positive response from the market.”

“With the unveiling of our new version, we’re dramatically changing analytic performance expectations,” said Barry Zane, CTO and founder of ParAccel, in an email to Information Management. “And, in SAN environments, we are eliminating the old tradeoffs between high performance silos of data and a well-managed enterprise application environment.” Zane also commented that ParAccel delivers the performance, proven in customer bakeoffs and public benchmarks, in a way that meets all the requirements of a mature analytic shop.

The news follows yesterday’s announcement that ParAccel has received $22 million in a Series C venture financing round led by new investor Menlo Ventures. ParAccel plans to use the funds to expand product development, accelerate sales and marketing and ramp up services and support to manage its rapidly growing customer base.  Previous investors Bay Partners, Mohr Davidow Ventures (MDV), Tao Venture Partners and Walden International also participated in the round.

The ParAccel Analytic Database 2.0 will be generally available in August, 2009.
