ERP-on-demand software vendor Workday is tackling the often difficult and costly challenge of integrating hosted applications with on-premises applications through a cloud-based integration platform.

The Pleasanton, Calif.-based company said its Integration Cloud Platform provides a set of tools and ready-made interfaces to simplify the process of integrating its offerings with on-site or third-party applications.

“Today’s enterprise applications rarely live in isolation,” Aneel Bhusri, Workday chief executive officer, said in a statement. “By enabling our customers and partners to self-build, deploy, run, and manage integrations in the Workday Cloud, we believe we solve more of the integration problem.”

Workday offers a range of software-as-a-service (SaaS)-delivered enterprise applications covering such areas as human resources, payroll and finance. It claims more than 190 customers in the large-to-midsize company category.

Key components of the integration platform include Workday Studio, a development tool which offers a graphical interface for customers and partners to build custom integrations. An Enterprise Interface Builder tool provides a graphical interface to help define required inbound and outbound integrations.

Workday said it has also established an integration ecosystem, where partners, customers and Workday will offer pre-built integrations.  Workday said it is launching the ecosystem with packaged integrations for applications from such vendors as Ceridian, Kronos, Salesforce.com, and Taleo.
