Silver Creek offers software which helps companies simplify and standardize product descriptions commonly found in many industries. Achieving improved product data quality can benefit companies in a number of ways, Oracle said in a presentation on the purchase, including providing for consistent and accurate data for use in sales, design, procurement, fulfillment, billing and other business operations.
“Lack of standardized product data continues to be a challenge for many enterprises,” Hasan Rizvi, senior vice president, Oracle Fusion Middleware Product Development, said in a statement. “With the addition of Silver Creek, Oracle is extending its industry leading data integration offering with complementary solutions to enhance product data quality and help customers get more accurate and consistent product data for use across their enterprise.”
Oracle said it plans to apply Silver Creek’s DataLens software across a number of enterprise applications, including its Product Information Data Hub, Agile Product Lifecycle Management, Supply Chain Management, and Enterprise Resource Planning offerings.
Silver Creek is headed by Barbara Mowry, former chief executive of Requisite Technologies. Mowry also serves as chairman of the Denver Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. Mowry said combining with Oracle will provide Silver Creek with the resources to expand the scope of its offerings and make them available to a broader audience.
Data quality remains a stubborn problem for many businesses. A survey released by Pitney Bowes in August of 2009 found that one-third of large corporations with revenues of $1 billion or more, rate the quality of their data as poor. Pitney Bowes competes with Oracle and other vendors such as IBM and Informatica on the data quality front and was a Silver Creek strategic partner.
