March 9, 2012 – President Obama on Friday promoted Todd Park to Chief Technology officer in the administration.

Park succeeds Aneesh Chopra, who resigned in February to return to The Advisory Board Company. Park since August 2009 has served as CTO of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Park previously was co-founder of athenahealth, a vendor that bundles integrated practice management/electronic health record software with outsourced billing/collections/records management services, and led development of products and services.

Deputy CTO Tom Power will continue his duties and also assume the duties of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy associate director for technology. Chopra previously also handled that position and a search will be conducted for a permanent replacement.
