Affiliated Computer Services said this week that it has won a five-year extension to a major outsourcing contract to manage McDonald’s data center operations and a portfolio of IT services.

Dallas-based Affiliated Computer Services (ACS) said the contract extension furthers the company’s existing six-year relationship with the restaurant chain.

ACS said it will continue to provide a full portfolio of managed services to McDonalds, including mainframe and midrange server support, networking operations and engineering and data center facilities management. It also provides service desk functions, desktop support and messaging services.

Under the new contract, ACS will also provide an end-to-end application performance monitoring service. ACS said this offering improves diagnosis of performance issues across core technology stacks and will support development, testing and quality assurance processes.

Chris Millington, McDonald’s chief technology officer, said in a statement that the outsourcing contract fits with the company’s long-term IT strategy. “Sourcing has been a key component of our strategy to enable and empower the business,” he said. “The extension of the ACS agreement is a sign of our further commitment to this strategy and all the positive benefits we’ve received.”

ACS, which released its fiscal second quarter results a week ago, said it signed $275 million in new business deals in the quarter ended December 31. The company is in the process of being acquired by Xerox, which bid $6.4 billion for the firm last September.
