IBM says it’s building a virtualized infrastructure for Quality HealthCare Medical Services, one of the leading healthcare providers in Hong Kong.

The project involves decreasing the number of physical servers from 100 to just eight IBM System x servers and centralizing storage. QHMS said this will enable it to reduce IT operational costs by 25% and software license and related maintenance costs by 23%, IBM says.

"We are always looking for ways to further improve the patient experience. Our new cloud [will allow] us to deliver information to our doctors faster and in a more reliable way," Elaine Chu, COO of QHMS, said in a statement. "As a result, we will be able to serve our patients more effectively and with higher levels of care. It is very exciting to see how we can make a difference to our patients with the help of technology."

QHMS is also deploying an IBM Cognos Business Intelligence system that provides financial key performance indicators and analysis, giving the company an opportunity to gain more timely business information.
