July 17, 2009 - HP and IBRIX today announced a definitive agreement for HP to acquire IBRIX, a provider of enterprise-class file serving software solutions. IBRIX software offerings cover data protection, high-availability features and data management services for massive amounts of user-generated data.
According to the companies, IBRIX solutions scale to tens of petabytes, aiding control of exploding data growth and helping address application performance challenges in demanding environments. The data management capability of IBRIXs Fusion software suite allows customers to seamlessly add capacity as their data or performance needs grow.
Founded in 2000, and an HP partner for three years, IBRIX is privately held and headquartered in Billerica, Massachusetts. It has 53 employees and more than 175 enterprise customers worldwide, including AOL, Caterpillar, Disney, DreamWorks, JPMorgan Chase, Pixar and Random House. IBRIX also partners with Dell and EMC.
Adding IBRIXs software to HPs portfolio furthers the companys position in the emerging market of scale-out and high-performance computing storage, cloud storage, and fixed content archiving.
Customers need highly scalable storage solutions that efficiently and cost-effectively manage massive amounts of information, said Jeff Hausman, vice president of Unified Storage, StorageWorks Division, HP, in a statement. Hausman explained that the acquisition will expand HPs portfolio to better support the needs of the market segment.
Joining forces with HP is a natural fit for our customers, resulting in an enhanced storage solution that scales to meet their data growth, said Milan Shetti, CEO, IBRIX. The business will be integrated into the StorageWorks division in HPs Technology Solutions Group, which provides storage consolidation solutions to unify, share, network and virtualize storage.
The value of the transaction was not disclosed and remains subject to closing conditions expected to be completed within the next 30 days.
