“Enterprises increasingly want to move to the cloud—whether private or hybrid—to gain the benefits of agility and cost reduction,” Adi Paz, executive vice president of marketing and business development at GigaSpaces, said in a statement. “However, deploying [critical] applications to the cloud can present significant challenges. Today, achieving cloud benefits requires vast investments of time and resources to rewrite applications, and so the bulk of enterprise business apps have still not made the move.”
GigaSpaces says Cloudify leverages the company’s experience in virtualization and delivering application platforms for large-scale, critical applications. The platform can deploy any middleware stack (Java/Spring, JEE, PHP, .Net, Ruby on Rails or others), whether a relational or non-relational data store is employed or if other middleware components are added.
Cloudify comes with a set of plug-ins that support common public and private cloud environments. It was designed to support non-virtualized environments, enabling deployment of a fully elastic application on top of bare metal machines, GigaSpaces says.
At the core of Cloudify is a “blueprint” that gives the platform all the details needed to run an application, including what middleware services to run and how to install services.
The Cloudify beta version is available for download from the GigaSpaces Web site. Full pricing will be available upon general release in December.
