In a presentation from cloud platform provider Akamai, Products and Development EVP Rick McConnell spotlighted two new offerings available within the next month: Terra Alta, a solution designed to ease the complexity of developing and deploying enterprise apps to the cloud, with customization to handle a growing mobile user base; and Aqua Mobile Accelerator, a service meant to more evenly match mobile Web experiences and app capabilities with desktops for enterprises and their end users.
Andy Champagne, VP of technology and product for Akamai’s Enterprise Cloud Division, said during the presentation that the Terra Alta product expands upon their existing Web Application Accelerator offering with application extension into the enterprise data center and real-time configuration of apps on and off the platform.
“As more and more global organizations are adopting cloud technology as part of their enterprise architecture, we wanted to ensure that this product would key in to their existing capabilities,” Champagne said.
Both of the new offerings are built on the Akamai Intelligent Platform, a globally distributed cloud platform that pulls and files content from online servers and mobile apps and connects them to an enterprise’s Web servers and mobile networks. Also updated in the last three months on the platform were Kona, a cloud security offering; Aura, for mobile networking; and Sola, a solution for media and video solutions. McConnell said Tuesday that Akamai would also deliver a new portal for platform users in the near future.
The announcements Tuesday do not directly include capabilities from a recent acquisition and a partnership deal with Cotendo and Ericsson, respectively. Functionality to address cellular congestion via a partnership with Ericsson will be introduced in updates of the mobile solutions, and other add-ons are expected from its buyout of Web and mobile cloud acceleration provider Cotendo.
